Curriculum
At St Andrew's Church of England Primary, our curriculum is designed to give every child a strong foundation in core knowledge, skills and values. We aim to create a broad and balanced learning experience that supports children to become confident learners, respectful members of the community and curious thinkers. Our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure progression from year group to year group, so that pupils build on what they already know and can apply their learning in a range of contexts.
Learning is structured around the National Curriculum while reflecting the distinctive ethos of a Church of England school. We place a strong emphasis on high-quality teaching, clear expectations and meaningful assessment to help pupils make steady progress. In English and mathematics, children develop secure literacy and numeracy skills through purposeful practice, rich reading and carefully sequenced learning. Across the wider curriculum, pupils explore science, history, geography, art, design and technology, computing, music and physical education through engaging topics that develop knowledge, vocabulary and practical understanding.
We also recognise the importance of supporting children’s personal development and wellbeing. Our curriculum promotes respectful relationships, positive behaviour and opportunities for pupils to develop resilience, teamwork and leadership. Parents are encouraged to work in partnership with the school, including through regular communication about learning and progress. By providing a consistent, inclusive and ambitious curriculum, we aim to prepare all children for the next stage of their education and for life beyond school.
